Almuñecar: The Roman Aquaduct:
Constructed during the 1st century, and still in use until only a couple of decades ago, the Roman Aquaduct 4 kilometres inland from the town is really quite impressive.  You can get more information about it where abouts from the Almuñecar tourist office located in Parque del Majuelo. 10-14:00, 16-18:00.

Velez de Benaudalla: The Nazari Gardens: 
The Nazari Garden, built by the Moors along the same lines as the world famous Alhambra in Granada, with an emphasis on water features, grottos, beautiful flowers and clipped hedges should not be missed if you are coming to this area.. only 15 minutes from Salobreña.

Guadahortuna- Iron Bridge built1889: Located just 65km from Granada, this town and it's iron bridge have a lot to offer.  The town is located on the fluvial channel of the Guadahortuna channel, and it means, river of orchards. The town has one of the most outstanding buildings, the church of Santa Maria Mayor. It is well worth a visit, and the food is fantastic here as well.
Castril-Sierra Castril:  The Sierra Castil, is a relatively undiscovered beautiful mountain range north east of Granada.  It is adjacent to the Sierra Cazorla region, and combined the make up the largest natural park in Europe. Castril is a typical small Granadian town with stepped houses and steep streets.  This is an agricutural region, specializing in Almonds, Olives as well as a large sheep farming community. Baza City Architecture: In June 2003, Baza was officially declared a site of historic interest.  The Muslim Medina (Muslim Quarter) and the Alcazaba still exist here.  Don't miss the La Dama de Baza.  This is a historic sculpture excavated from Cerro del Sanctuario, (Sanctuary Hill).  It dates back to 400 BC, and was found in the tomb of what is thought to be the goddess  of the time. Try the local favourite Gachas Tortas, this is a savoury pasta dish of rabbit, onions, garlic, peppers, potatoes, olive oil and white wine. Click pic for more info.
The Alpujarras- Mountain Range & Picturesque Towns:
This is just a lovely area to explore.  There are many many towns in this region, I have listed some of the most popular.  Albondon, Albuñol,Almegíjar,Berchule,Bubion,Capileria,Ferreirola, Golco, Pamponiera, Lanjaron, Orgiva and Trevelez.  Trevelez has the distinction of being the highest town in Spain.  Lanjaron has the natural Spring Baths and there is much much more to see here.. Nerja- The Caves: Discovered in 1959, these fantastic caves are now open to the public.  The caves boast stalagmites, stalactites and columns.  The world's largest naturally formed column can be found here as well.  The main cavern has a ceiling reaching 32 metres. Also present are naturally formed music hall, cave drawings, restaurant, museum & gift shop.
Opening hours are July-Aug 10-2pm & 4-8pm.  Sep-Jun 10-2pm & 4-630pm. Flamenco concerts are held in the hall in July.
Granada- The Science Park:  Visit the Science park and see the butterfly house, the planetarium and the observation tower. There are over 270 interactive activities spread out over 2 buildings. Until June 2008 see an exhibition of the poisoness species of Andalucia.  Check out their website, it's in English and Spanish. www.parqueciencias.com. It's a great day out.
Lanjaron- Roman Baths and Spa:  Go and discover a geniune mineral spa and baths.  There are 6 natural springs here.  There is a large array of healthful services offered here, and you will never be the same after just one visit. Located in the Alpujarras about 30 minutes from the coast.  It's just a fantastic spot.  For more information and prices, check out their  website offered in English. Click photo to go there.
Almuñecar-Aqua TropicWater Park: June-Sept, the park is open 11-7pm.  It's located right on the beach close to bars and restaurants.  There is also a night disco here for the young and young at heart.  The park features several water rides, The Black Hole, Zig Zags, a wave pool and water slides, the Kamikaze and Magic Mountain. Salobreña- Rock Beach Ranch: Fancy a ride?  Rock Beach Ranch, is a private, family run British owned and operated riding school.  Available are hill rides, trekking, both private and group lessons, pony rides, livery, and breaking and schooling.  There is also a childrens riding club.  English teachers.
